PARA & BAILA

In 1995 Para began making a series of mixtapes which he would hand out locally and in 1998 Para started his first night “De La Funk” at a local nightclub (running for 2 years). One of his scratch tracks was the released on "The Return of DJ” an album series devoted entirely to Turntablism which over the years has featured the worlds greatest Hip-Hop DJs. Around 2003/04 Para & Baila started work on a cut and paste style mix called “The Saxton Collection”. This was a exceptional cut and paste journey that fuses snippets of records from many musical genres in an innovative and original style. Eventually this mix was picked up by DJ Yoda who was so impressed that he decided to ask Para and Baila to work on another mix set to be released on the Antidote label later this year.

In 1998 Baila went of to university and started playing out every weekend to big crowds. He would also start to play at Para’s “De La Funk” nights when he returned home and this is were Para and Baila started to work on their live 3 deck sets. Baila also helped form a group of musicians and began a funk band called “No More Horses”. They became popular very quickly and were soon doing shows every weekend all across the country. Using hip-hop and Funk as the main inspiration the shows were full of energy and received great press and main stage shows at festivals. Balia has performed with the “Blue Man Group” in New York.

Para and Baila have been doing live shows together now for the past 8 years and have played all across the country as well as America, Spain, Germany, Ireland and France. They have supported - African Bambatta, Breakestra, Cash Money, Freestylers, Ugly Duckling, LTJ Bukem, Goldie, DJ Shortkut, Buck 65 and more.

“Their Saxton Collection is the best mix cd from a DJ that I have heard all year. An Incredibly tight mix of unheard funk breaks and seminal old school hip hop, swiftly and precisely blended with a fantastic sense of humour. I’m predicting big things for Para.” - DJ Yoda hhc.

"Fancy a lesson in the art of Turntablism? Veteran crate diggers Para and Baila present a fine bodied selection of old school funk cuts, sliced and scratched with left field grooves and hip-hop verbs. This mix is expertly crafted; the hosts somehow manage to drift between infinite musical genres with great ease. A melting pot of eclectic sounds indeed. Unlike many Dj mixes out there in cd land Para and Baila have raised the game and leave the competition in the dirt.
